Numbers 31:48-50

⁴⁸ Then the leaders and the officers of the army went to Moses. ⁴⁹ They said to him: ‘We have counted the soldiers who went to fight against the Midianites. They have all come back safely. ⁵⁰ So we have brought a gift to offer to the Lord. We have brought gold rings, ear-rings, necklaces and other gold things that people wear. They are gifts to remove our sins so that the Lord will forgive us.’
